Thanks to CT scanning (computed tomography, often called a “CAT” scan) doctors can view a “slice” of the human body painlessly. Often used to diagnose life-threatening conditions and issues like cancer, blood clots, infections, lung and liver disease, head and spine injuries and internal bleeding, Scenic Mountain Medical Center includes CT scans among the variety of diagnostic tools we use to give patients of all ages a clear picture of illness and injury.
Scenic Mountain Medical Center uses a 64-slice CT scanner which provides highly detailed, crisp, sharp images, rapidly. The exam usually lasts less than an hour, including any preparations, though the actual scan may only last a minute or two.
A CT scan may require that you refrain from eating or drinking beforehand if you have to drink a contrast liquid-which helps healthcare providers see body structures more clearly-or have a contrast dye injected before the test.
