At SMMC we offer multidisciplinary care to a wide variety of patients in need of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy. Our licensed therapists participate in continuing education in order to stay up-to-date on current patient care methods and provide treatment that is based on current research to help patients achieve their maximum independence.
As part of our treatment plan, we incorporate a team approach designed to help meet an individual patient’s needs. The patient and their family are key members of the team and assist in setting goals and providing input on patient care.
At SMMC we offer a variety of services that include:
Acute rehabilitation: Our inpatient acute rehab program provides treatment to patients during their hospital admission. Our goal is to provide the best patient care possible through communication between the therapist, nursing staff, and doctors.
Orthopedics: Our orthopedic program allows individuals who have undergone hip replacements, knee replacements, fractures, rotator cuff repairs, or other orthopedic conditions to receive the therapy needed in order to regain function following injury or surgery.
Outpatient rehabilitation: As a hospital based rehab program, we have the unique ability to follow patients during their stay in the hospital and continue to treat them on an outpatient basis once they have discharged from acute care. Additionally, as part of our outpatient rehab we treat a variety of joint related pain, conduct pre-employment screenings, and treat work related injuries. We incorporate equipment such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, hydrotherapy, and exercise in our treatment plan to assist our patients in their recovery process.
Pediatrics: Our pediatric program evaluates and treats children with a variety of diagnoses including developmental delay, feeding and swallow disorders, physical disabilities, speech delays, sports related injuries, oral motor difficulties, and perceptual motor problems.
Speech therapy: Our program is unique in the fact that we are the only center in the Big Spring area to have a licensed speech therapist on staff. We treat a variety of speech disorders including tongue thrust, apashia, swallow disorders, stuttering, and a variety of other communication disorders. Additionally, we treat both pediatric and adult patients.
Wound care: Our wound management program is designed to treat a variety of wounds including diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, and surgical wounds using wound debridement and hydrotherapy treatment options.
We are located on the first floor of the hospital and are available Monday through Friday 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. For further information, please contact us at 432-268-4756 or e-mail Michael Himmelman at michael_himmelman@chs.net.
