The Outpatient Day Surgery Center at SMMC is designed to offer our patients a place for both diagnostic testing and surgery in one convenient setting.  You’ll benefit from the same qualified medical staff, advanced technology and hospital services – without an overnight stay.  With smaller incisions and a shorter recovery time, you get back to doing what you love, and that can make all the difference in the world.

General Surgeons Alan Abel, M.D. and Ladd Hoffman, M.D., members of the Medical Staff at SMMC, are a part of the Family Medical Center physician team.  The surgical facilities available to them at SMMC include 3 fully equipped surgical suites.

Alan E. Abel, M.D.

Board-certified General Surgeon Alan Abel, M.D. serves as Chief of the SMMC Medical Staff.  He attended medical school at the University of Texas and completed his residency at the University of Nevada at Reno in 1985.  With more than 20 years surgical experience, Dr. Abel has practiced in Big Spring since 2002. 

Ladd C. Hoffman, M.D.

Board-eligible general Surgeon Ladd Hoffman, M.D. joined the SMMC medical staff in July 2008 after completing his surgical residency at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio.  Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Hoffman taught math to high school students in Carthage.
